The recipe for the perfect fish cakes

This is a recipe that is incredibly easy to make and makes the best fish cakes. The perfect fish cakes are deliciously crispy, juicy and flavorful. If you haven't tried them already, this recipe could quickly become the next classic in your kitchen. 

Fish cakes with cod

For: 4 people
Time: 45 min.

Ingredients

  • 500g Cod 
  • 1 egg 
  • 3 tbsp Wheat flour 
  • ½ dl Milk 
  • 1 tsp. salt 
  • Freshly ground pepper 
  • Butter for frying

Here's how to do it

  1. Place the fish, flour, eggs, salt and pepper in a food processor and process until a paste forms. 

  2. Chill the fish mince in the fridge for ½ hour. 

  3. Add butter to the pan and shape the mixture into meatballs with a spoon. 

  4. Fry the meatballs at medium heat for about five minutes on each side until golden and crispy. 

Tip: It's important to be patient with the meatballs when frying them so you don't turn them too often and ruin the texture and firmness of the meatballs. 

Simple and tasty fish cakes

The recipe produces a mince that is easy to shape and cook without the chips falling apart.

The recipe also provides an opportunity for variation, as you can easily add other types of fish or vegetables, depending on what you like. Here we have chosen to use cod, as it has a great flavor and is easy to handle. 

Fish cakes in a multitude of different ways

Your fish cakes can be served for lunch on freshly baked rye bread with homemade remoulade and lemons, or you can serve them for dinner with a good raw vegetable salad, boiled potatoes and parsley sauce.

Get your fish cakes as fresh as possible

You can buy your fish at the supermarket or visit your local fishmonger to get your fish as fresh as possible. Besides cod, you can easily use other light fish such as hake or saithe. You can also choose to replace half of the fish with salmon for a different and delicious flavor. 

Making your own fish mince is super simple and delicious. The advantage is that you can choose the ingredients and spices you want to add. 

To add a little extra flavor, you can add different herbs to the fish mince. For example, add chives or dill for a fishcake that is a little different, but still tastes great.
